King License Plate Now Available

The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission proudly announces Arkansas’ first commemorative license plate dedicated to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The commemorative license plate will be available at local revenue offices throughout the state of Arkansas. “I am pleased to announce that Arkansas is one of five states in the nation that now offers a license plate commemorating the legacy of Dr. King. We did the footwork and gathered interest and support from motorists across the state and now “the dream” is a reality for Arkansans who want to show their support of Dr. King by way of owning a license plate. The introduction of the King Commemorative license plate shows the depth of support that Arkansans have for Dr. King’s vision of equality, nonviolence and acceptance,” says DuShun Scarbrough, Executive Director of the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission. “Dr. King’s vision was universal and we want to make sure all Arkansas have an opportunity to own and share the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. year round.”

There are many advantages to partnerships in the community, especially in the area of community awareness.

The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, with the assistance of the Arkansas Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Arkansas Department of Education, and the Arkansas Black History Commission, has released the Arkansas African American History Makers Coloring Book. This coloring book will serve as an important resource in educating our youth about the significance of each individual historian within it. Few of our young citizens are exposed to many African Americans who were important contributors that advanced civil rights and helped paved the way for all Arkansans. It is our hope that you will recognize the unsung heroes as well as learn and appreciate their struggles and triumphs. We hope you become motivated by these individuals and become agents that will encourage future generations.

While there are many history makers not included in this volume, your thoughts and ideas for future volumes are welcomed.
